President: Group5+1 has to talk with Iran
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the Group5+1 of countries comprising US, China, France, Britain and Russia (five permanent members of the UN Security Council) plus Germany has no option other than holding dialogue with Iran.
The president said that cooperation is the best available option while expressing hope that Iran and Group5+1 will achieve results in their upcoming negotiations.
'I was astounded by the stance of the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton vis-à-vis a letter the by Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili because Jalili had only expressed Iran's readiness for cooperation within a legal framework and mutual respect,' President Ahmadinejad said in a televised interview with IRIB's channel two.
Jalili in his letter (dated May 7) to Ashton welcomed talks with the Group 5+1 based on a common ground and in a pressure-free atmosphere.
Iran and the Group 5+1 held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010 and in the Turkish city of Istanbul last January.
