DUTCH PREMIER ATTENDS RI'S 63rd INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY RECEPTION IN THE HAGUE
London, Sept 6 (ANTARA) - The presence of Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkendekaan at the reception of the 63rd Indonesian Independence anniversary celebrations at the Indonesian ambassador's residence in The Heague, the Netherlands, on Thursday evening was of a milestone in the history of the two countries' diplomatic relations.
The presence of that country's top leader sent a message to Indonesia that it was an important partner of the Netherlands, Head of the Information and Socio-Cultural Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy Firdaus Dahlian told Antara's correspondent in London on Friday.
It was reported that the reception was attended by 650 guests.
According to Firdaus, progress in the two countries' close relations was apparent since the success in overcoming many kinds of obstacles hampering efforts at enhancing relations between the two countries.
Both countries have a strong commitment to their respective future and are trying to open a new page in their relations which will bring new hopes and strengthen cooperation in many fields, he said.
In addition to the Dutch prime minister, also present were Foreign Minister Maxim Verhagen, the Justice Minister, Head of the Dutch Parliament's foreign affairs committee, the former Dutch ambassador to Indonesia as well as ambassadors from friendly countries and representatives of international organizations, businessmen and friends from Indonesia.
In his address, Indonesian ambassador to the Netherland JE Habibie extended his appreciation to the Dutch Prime Minister, his cabinet ministers and other invitees for the a progress of cooperation between the two countries in the sectors of economy, trade, tourism, education, defence and other sectors.
In the meantime, the Dutch Foreign Minister in his address put an emphasis on the importance of Indonesia in that country's political priorities.
For that reason, his side would continue efforts of improvement of cooperation between the two countries in many fields.
The reception was also used to promote trade, tourism and investment by displaying various Indoesian export products with their destination countries and other brochures.
