Jalili: Uprising of Palestinians Paves Way for Refugees' Return

TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili reiterated that the uprising of the Palestinian refugees in the neighboring countries paved the way for the return of in-exile Palestinian citizens to their homeland.
Jalili also said that the Palestinians marked the second chapter of Islamic Awakening on the Day of Nakba (catastrophe).

He said the uprising of Palestinian refugees in neighboring countries paved the road for the return of in-exile Palestinian community and the ouster of the Zionist regime from the occupied territories.

The National Security Council secretary made the remarks in a meeting with Cairo-based scholar and writer on Islamic affairs Fahmi Howeidi in Tehran on Monday.

Howeidi for his part said support for the Palestinian people and resistance against US and Zionist policies in the region were among the top values of the Egyptian nation.

Israel on Sunday killed eight and wounded several hundred Palestinian demonstrators during the Nakba Day or "day of the catastrophe" demonstrations.

Elsewhere, Israeli soldiers opened fire on civilian protestors across the border in Lebanon and killed four, sources said.

According to Lebanese security officials, protesters were approaching the border with Israel, but did not mean to cross the border.

The security officials said there were injuries as well.

The unrest came as the Palestinians marked the "Nakba (Catastrophe) Day", marking the Zionist invasion of Palestine on May 15, 1948, which led to the massacre and displacement of millions of the Palestinians to this day.

The Israeli soldiers wiped nearly 500 Palestinian villages and towns off the map during the offensive, leaving the Palestinian refugees dreaming of an eventual return to their homeland more than six decades later.

Also, Israeli military forces shot dead one Palestinian and injured ten others in the Gaza Strip as thousands of Palestinians staged protests to mark the anniversary of "Nakba Day."

In Palestine, youths clashed with Israeli troops in the city of al-Khalil as heavy clashes broke out across the West Bank while Palestinians mourned on the Nakba Day.

Israeli troops fired tank shells near protest march in Gaza and killed a 17-year-old Palestinian and wounded ten others.

In another incident, five Palestinians were also injured in the West Bank town of Ramallah.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli forces on Qalandia checkpoint between Ramallah and al-Quds.
