Yeddyurappa to meet Guv, ask him to convene Assembly session

New Delhi (PTI) - Chief Minister of the south
Indian state of Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday said he
would meet Governor H R Bhardwaj soon to request him to
convene the session of the state Assembly early next month.
"I will meet the Governor along with a few of my
Cabinet colleagues to request him to allow us to start the
Assembly session," Yeddyurappa said here before leaving for
Bangalore.
He said it was for the second time that the state
Cabinet has recommended the session dates.
"I hope today he is going to take a right decision and
allow us to commence the Assembly session from June 2," he
said.
The Chief Minister refused to comment on the Governor
questioning the decision of the Speaker disqualifying 16
legislators ahead of a crucial vote of confidence that
Yeddyurappa narrowly survived.
"I need not say anything. I will discuss with the
Governor and only then I will get back to you," he said.
The ruling party BJP in the state has demanded the
recall of the Governor after he recommended imposition of
President's Rule in the state.
The party has claimed that it has the support of 121
MLAs in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly.
Bhardwaj also described Yeddyurppa as a hard working
Chief Minister who has been toiling for the development of the
state.
"Even now the Chief Minister is working hard to build
the state. I know he is working for 18 to 20 hours a day", he
said.
Rejecting the charge that he was partisan, Bhardwaj
said, "There is no partiality and impartiality so far as my
life is concerned. I have nothing personal against
Yeddyurappa. From my peon to Secretary I treat everybody with
love and affection. I require that in return".
"Work on principles and with mutual respect", Bhardwaj
said while showering encomiums on the bureaucrats of the
state, including Chief Secretary and Secretaries, who he said
had been performing better than their counterparts in other
states.
Taking a trip down memory lane, Yeddyurappa recalled
the days when he served as a second division clerk in the
government service before his entry into politics.
"After becoming Chief Minister, I have learnt a lot of
lessons. In the coming two years I will devote my attention
to give a transparent administration. I want all seniors to
cooperate in this direction", he said.
