France ‘interested’ in developing legal cooperation with Azerbaijan
Baku, May 19 (AzerTAc). Chief of Service for European and International Affairs at the Ministry of Justice and Liberties of France Eric Metrper has expressed his country`s interest in developing legal cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Eric Metrper met with Azerbaijan`s minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov on Wednesday.
Bilateral cooperation in all spheres, as well as in judicial field is developing between Azerbaijan and France.
An agreement has been signed between Justice Ministers of the two countries during the visit of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to France in 2004.
Azeri minister provided information on progress achieved on judicial, in particular, penitentiary reforms led by President Ilham Aliyev. He stressed the active participation of French experts in the reforms. Fikrat Mammadov said that the visit of Chief of Service for European and International Affairs at Ministry of Justice and Liberties of France Eric Metrper will contribute to boosting the cooperation between justice authorities of the two countries.
Chief of Service for European and International Affairs at Ministry of Justice and Liberties of France underlined that he has visited Azerbaijan for several times. Eric Metrper praised Azerbaijan`s justice reforms. Mr. Metrper proposed concrete motions on bilateral cooperation appreciating the election of judges through progressive ways.
The sides exchanged views on cooperation with the French National School for the Judiciary, organizations of educative visits of judges and lawyers, activity of administrative courts, strengthening of the Justice Acacdemy`s potential, fulfillment of courts decisions, especially development of notaries, application of modern technology in courts, fighting against corruption and other issues.
Eric Metrper also held meeting with member of the Azerbaijani Council of Court and Law and the Election Commission of judges. He was informed on activity of the Council of Court and Law and its role in the expansion of legal system, guarantee the independence of judges and competitions held for servicing at court and procurator`s offices.
Getting familiar with social-economic development of regions, activity of local justice and court bodies, modern court infrastructure implemented together with the World Bank, newly established penitentiary complexes and meetings with local judges, prosecutors and justice employees are expected during Eric Metrper`s visit to the regions of Azerbaijan.
