CHINESE INVESTORS INTERESTED IN BUILDING PLTUs in BABEL

Pangkalpinang, Sept 8 (ANTARA) - A number of Chinese investors have expressed interest in the development of coal-fired power plants (PLTUs) in Bangka Belitung (Babel) province, a local official said here on Sunday.

"We predict that they will build PLTUs with a capacity of about 30 MW to 40 MW in an effort to meet the local people's need for power supplies," Head of the Industry, Trade and Investment Service of Pangkalpinang city, Anwar Effendi said here on Sunday.

He said that Chinese investment was expected to help the electricity shortages, accelerate economic growth and improve the standard of life of the people in the province.

So far, the state-owned electricity company PT PLN is not able to provide enough power for the people in Pangkalpinang city, capital of Babel province.

He said that the Pangkalpinang city government supported the Chinese interest and would provide 5 hectares of land in Ketapang district for the PLTU project.
