Azeri delegation attend 20th EBRD annual meeting

Baku, May 24 (AzerTAc). An Azerbaijani delegation led by Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev attended the 20th Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Astana.
The event brought together ministers of economy, finance and trade, experts from 61 countries and representatives of international financial organizations.
Addressing a plenary session, Azeri minister briefed participants on the Azerbaijan`s economy, noting progress has been achieved in the social and economic field. He stressed his country is interested in expanding relations with international financial organizations, in particular, with the EBRD.
A presentation on Azerbaijan was held as a part of the event.
Mustafayev met with president of EBRD Thomas Mirow as part of the Astana visit. The parties discussed prospects of cooperation, the ways of expanding EBRD`s activity in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani delegation also had meetings with representatives of the European Investment Bank, officials from Turkey and Switzerland, Tokyo-Mitsubishi Bank and City Bank
Founded in 1991, EBRD uses the tools of investment to help build market economies and democracies in 30 countries from central Europe to central Asia. Its mission was to support the formerly communist countries in the process of establishing their private sectors.
EBRD provides project financing for banks, industries and businesses, both new ventures and investments in existing companies. It also works with publicly owned companies to support privatization, restructuring state-owned firms and improvement of municipal services.
