Khalifa urges scholars to promote tolerant Islam

Abu Dhabi, Sept.8, 2008 (WAM) - President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan appreciated Sunday the credible role the Muslim scholars play in disseminating knowledge, awareness, intimacy and moderation among Muslim faithfuls.

The president also highlighted the important mission of scholars in propagating the moderate school of tolerant Islam and its lenient principles.

Addressing a group of scholars and preachers being hosted by the President during the holy month of Ramadan, Sheikh Khalifa stressed those scholars have a great role to play in promoting these values and principles and inculcating them into the hearts of Muslims across the world. He urged them to upgrade these values to keep abreast with changes and developments of modern time while upholding the essence of the Islamic faith which preaches fraternity, mercy and tolerance.

"The mandate of scholars is to preach what Allah loves and satisfies with through modes that mirrors the great teachings of Islam and its immortal message,''he told the audience of scholars at Al Bateen Palace which attended by H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The scholars called on the President to congratulate him on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. They paid rich tribute to Sheikh Khalifa for his warm reception and generosity.

They lauded the humanitarian initiatives launched by Sheikh Khalifa to assist Muslims and other needy persons all over the world. In doing that, they indicated, Sheikh Khalifa was following in the step of his late benevolent father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan They added that these honourable stances were met by spectacular respect and acclaim from different peoples of the world. They wished the President good health and happiness and the UAE all more progress and prosperity under his prudent stewardship.

The meeting was attended by a number Sheikhs, ministers, dignitaries and senior officials.
