N SUMATRA EARNS US$14.86 MILLION FROM COFFEE EXPORTS
Medan, Sept 8 (ANTARA) - North Sumatera earned US$14. 86 million from coffee exports up to July 2008.
"The arabica coffee contributes the largest income with a trade value of US$ 14.03 million," Suyanto Husein, head of the provincial chapter of the Indonesian Coffee Exporters Association, said here on Monday.
North Sumatra's arabica coffee exports reached a total volume of 3,902,275 kilograms until last July.
Meanwhile, North Sumatra also exported 122,900 kilograms of robusta coffee and 130,613 kilograms of instant coffee which brought in respectively US$291,315 and US$ 543,257 in earnings.
"This year, price of coffee is quite good that it has boosted export value," he said.
The price of arabica coffee for export ranged between US$3,550 and US$3,600 per metric ton, while the local price was US$ 3.07 to US$3.12 per kilogram.
North Sumatra exported coffee among other things to the US, Japan, Singapore, and Brunai Darussalam.
