Baku, 29 May (AzerTAc). Azerbaijani students studying in Japan have held an event to celebrate 28 May – Republic Day.
Addressing the event, research fellow of the Waseda University, Emil Jafarzade spoke of the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).
He said the ADR was the first democratic republic in the East established on May 28, 1918. He noted female suffrage had been recognized in Azerbaijan before several European countries. Jafarzade added ADR established secular democratic institutions, including the parliament and elected multi-party representative government.
During the event, the participants heard one of founders of ADR Mammad Amin Rasulzade`s interview which he gave to the Liberty Radio in 1953.
The event participants also exchanged views on the history of ADR.
