18th session of UNESCO`s International Bioethics Committee kicks off in Baku
Baku, May 31 (AzerTAc). The 18th session of UNESCO`s International Bioethics Committee (IBC) has today started in Azerbaijan`s capital.
The session initiated by Azerbaijani government is organized by the UNESCO National Commission and National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).
The event brings together about 80 foreign visitors, as well as members of IBC, scientists and representatives of diplomatic corps.
Opening the session, president of ANAS, academician Mahmud Karimov said that Azerbaijan makes its first steps on Bioethics. He stressed the opening of the Doctoral Degree and Dissertation Procedures for this profession in ANAS.
Executive director of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov read the address by the President of the Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva.
Video address by Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova to the 18th session of IBC was listened.
The session to last till Tuesday will feature lectures on the topics of respect for human values and personal privacy, traditional medicine and its ethical implications, Bioethics in Eastern Europe and other issues.
