Regional developments in direction of Islamic vigilance: FM

Tehran, May 31, IRNA – Foreign Minster Ali-Akbar Salehi said here Tuesday that the recent developments in the Middle East region and in North Africa will, of course, be continued in the direction of regional interests and Islamic vigilance.

Salehi made the remarks addressing the international conference on 'Islamic Vigilance, Cultural, Political and Geographical Developments in the Middle East,' with participation of foreign scholars and intellectuals from 20 world states.

Today, regional nations enjoy the fruits of their uprisings, said Salehi adding that the region is witnessing the collapse of regional dictatorships.

Referring to the attempts made by the US and Zionist regime to defend the Zionists and put obstacles to the regional movements, Salehi said: 'The world nations are now witnessing West's double-standard policies.'

Despite their pro-human rights' slogans, the western countries have kept silent on the crimes against the civilians in the region, the innocent people in Bahrain in particular, added Iran's foreign minister.

He further said any military interference in Bahrain is
'inexcusable,' and it is in contradiction of strategy for ensuring peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region.

The Islamic Republic is against any foreign meddling in the regional countries especially in Bahrain and Libya, said Salehi adding Iran sees these acts of interference as a serious threat to the stability in the world and region.

Iran's foreign minister further urged foreign military forces to leave Bahrain.

On allegations made by the US and West against Iran of meddling in Bahrain's internal affairs, Salehi said they utter such accusations while they have had military bases in Bahrain for decades.

'Islamic vigilance is like a political tsunami in the region,' said Salehi.

On tensions in Yemen, the Iranian minister hoped the legal demands of the Yemeni people will be met.

Talking about the issue of Syria and developments in that country, Salehi said Syria has done a lot to foil the Zionists' plots.

Iran carefully reviews the regional developments and will make due policies on those events, noted Iran's foreign minister.

About the developments in the region, Salehi said they have been inspired by Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution./end
