Deputy FM: Instrumental use of human rights, unacceptable

Tehran, June 1, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister in Europe Affairs, in a meeting with Swedish director general in Middle East and North Africa Affairs, said that instrumental use of human rights is not acceptable.

According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department on Tuesday, Ali Ahani in a meeting with Swedish senior diplomat, by referring to historical ties between the two countries, called for using existing capacities in bilateral relations and underlined importance of dialogue and mutual contacts.

Referring to differences in viewpoints concerning human rights issue and criticizing dual and discriminatory methods of the west on this issue in different countries, Ahani expressed that political and instrumental approaches with the issue of human rights is not acceptable at all.

The deputy FM, by reviewing development in the region of Middle East and north Africa, said that destruction of economic infra-structures of Libya by NATO bombardment upon wrong and selfish interpretations of the UN Security Council resolution is not acceptable and is condemned.

Referring to dual behavior of western countries with developments in Mideastern and north African states, Ahani added that international community effort to impose a framework of fundamental democracy upon respect for the principle of 'one man, one vote' would be a great help to solve problems of the region.

The Swedish senior diplomat, for his part, expressed pleasure with visiting Iran and underlined importance of consultations and political contacts between officials of both countries and expressed his country's readiness for continuation of consultations with Tehran.

Referring to Iran's important role in the region, the Swedish official said that Iran not only historically, but now and in the future has an special importance, so maintaining and expanding ties between the two countries is necessary.

Presenting an explanation concerning Sweden approach toward human rights, the official said that dialogue between officials of the two countries in this concern is important.

The Swedish senior diplomat, by referring to the developments of the Middle East and North Africa, said that the popular uprising in the countries is a move to obtain honor, respect and a challenge against old dictators./end
