AUSTRALIA TO EXTEND RP58 BILLION TO NTT FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

Kupang, Sept 9 (ANTARA) - The Australian government is to extend Rp58 billion in financial support for infrastructure development in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, its ambassador said.

"We will meet the NTT governor's request for financial support and therefore we will extend Rp58 billion in funds for infrastructure development in the province," Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer said at a meeting with Governor Frans Lebu Raya here on Tuesday.

At the meeting, the governor had asked for Australian government assistance for infrastructure development such as road and bridge construction in the province.

Governor Raya said construction of roads and bridges to connect remote areas in the province was important to improve the welfare of the local community.

In response to Farmer's statement, the governor expressed gratitude to the Australian ambassador for the assistance from his government.

"On behalf of NTT provincial administration and the people, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the assistance from the Australian government," the governor said.

He expressed hope that the long-standing partnership between Australia and NTT would continue to be maintained in the future.

The Australian government had previously also provided assistance to NTT in the fields of health, education, and poverty eradication for people living in coastal areas.
