ACEH CANDIDATES FOR HOUSE TAKE KORAN READING TEST

Banda Aceh, Sept 9 (ANTARA) - As many as 116 candidates for the House of Representatives from Aceh took a Koran reading test at the local Independent Election Commission (KIP) secretariat here on Tuesday to meet one of the requirements for their candidacy.

The test was carried out by 10 teams each consisting of three members from independent elements.

The second day of the test was attended by candidates number 12 to 22 from 11 parties with the Regional Unity Party (PPD) sending the most candidates namely 50, followed by the Nation Sun Party (19) and the Nation Awakening Party (18).

On the first day a total of 346 out of 422 candidates were tested. Seventy six failed to attend it for various reasons.

Around 1,500 candidates from 42 political parties including four locally-based parties are required to follow the test as required by Law Number 11 of 2006 on Aceh administration and put in Qanun (regional law) Number 3 of 2008 on local political parties.
