GMF PROJECTS US$160 MILLION INCOME THIS YEAR

Jakarta, Sept 9 (ANTARA) - PT GMF AeroAsia, a subsidiary of national flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia engaged in aircraft maintenance services, has set itself the target of earning US$160 million this year, or 20 percent more than a year earlier, its president director said.

"The amount is in line with our projection and target," PT GMF AeroAsia President Director R.Budihadianto said after signing a contract with airline company Southern Air here on Tuesday.

PT GMF AeroAsia signed a long-term contract worth US$30 million for the maintenance of all airplanes of Southern Air.

Budihadianto signed the contract for a period of three years with Southern Air's Chief Operation Officer Tom Gilles.

He said up to the first semester of 2008, GMF had booked an income of 70-80 million US dollars.

It was estimated that the world aircraft maintenance market in 2008 would reach a value of US$48 billion.

Budihadianto said the prospects of the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry at present and in the future were quite bright following the upward trend in world crude prices.

"World-class airlines in Europe and the United States now tend to shift the MRO of their planes to Asia because Asia is increasingly competitive," he said.

He said PT GMF was offering an MRO rate that was 10-20 percent lower than the rate charged by other countries in Asia such as Singapore.
