Speaker Urges Muslims' United Support for Palestinians

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, who is in Singapore on the first leg of a bi-nation tour of South-East Asia, called on all Muslim nations to create a single front for supporting the Palestinian people.
Addressing hundreds of Muslim prayers in Singapore's Sultan Mosque on Wednesday, Larijani reminded the hardships and sufferings of the Palestinian people, and said they are under intense and growing pressures by the US and the Zionist regime of Israel.

"Their problems have doubled today and they are experiencing a hard situation under the US and Zionists' pressures," he said.

"But, God willing, Palestinian people will be saved through the efforts and struggles of all Muslims, and Muslims will all attend prayers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque" in the near future, the Iranian speaker added, demanding the world Muslim nations to converge around the axis of Palestine.

Iran has always stressed that it will continue its strong and all-out support for the oppressed Palestinian people, and urged the world Muslims to continue and strengthen their support for the Palestinians, specially those in Gaza.

Iran has also asked for further efforts by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to end the Israeli-imposed siege on the oppressed Palestinians in Gaza.

The siege of Gaza started in June 2007 when Israel imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip.

The blockade consists of a land blockade along Gaza's borders with Egypt and Israel and a sea blockade. It immediately followed the 2006-2007 economic sanctions against the Palestinian National Authority following the election of Hamas to the Palestinian government.

The blockade has attracted criticism from many Human Rights organizations. September 2009 UN fact-finding mission found that the blockade of Gaza "amounted to collective punishment" was likely a war crime and a crime against humanity and recommended that the matter be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
