Azeri finance minister attends fifth meeting of permanent conference of CIS finance ministers


Kyiv, June 8 (AzerTAC). Azeri finance minister Samir Sharifov has attended the fifth meeting of the permanent conference of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) finance ministers in Ukraine`s capital Kyiv.
The event brought together representatives from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Armenia, Moldova, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov briefed the participants on financial and economic situation in the country.
The agenda includes a number of issues, including financial and economic situation in the CIS countries, development of national potentials in financial management, and establishment of a permanent advisory group of the financial stability council.
The Azeri minister made a report at the event.
A Ukraine-proposed draft memorandum of understanding among the ministries of finance was approved by most of the participants.
The permanent conference of the CIS finance ministers was created at the decision of the council of the CIS heads of state of October 10, 2008 to apply measures to control inflation, ensure macroeconomic stability, maintain adequate levels of capitalization and liquidity in the banking sector and the effective operation of the insurance system and guarantee bank deposits.

Later the same day the Azeri minister visited a monument to the national leader Heydar Aliyev in Kyiv and laid flowers at the monument.
Sharifov and Azerbaijan`s finance ministry staffers met with employees of Azerbaijan`s embassy to Ukraine.
