BJP distances from Ramdev's "force-formation" statement
Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala), Jun 9 (PTI) India's principal
opposition party, BJP Thursday sought to distance itself from
yoga guru Baba Ramdev's plan to set up a force as part of his
anti-corruption crusade, saying the party never propagates
violence.
"We will not support anything like that as the party never
propagates violence," Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) national
spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said at a meet-the-press
programme here in south Indian state of Kerala.
He said BJP would extend moral support to anybody who will
come forward to fight corruption and rejected Home Minister
P Chidrabaram's charge that civil rights activist Anna Hazare
and Ramdev were masks of RSS.
Javedkar said the Congress was trying to frustrate
anti-graft movement in the country by targeting Hazare and
Ramdev.
Criticising the Home Minister for attacking RSS, a right
wing Hindu outfit, on Ramdev issue, Javadekar said RSS was not
a banned organisation and challenged the government to take
action against it.
"Let the government ban it (RSS) and face the music. The
movement had been banned twice earlier. But it has gained
strength as the largest ever school of patriotism in the
country," he said.
Condemning the action on anti-corruption protesters at
Ram Lila Maidan on June 5, Javadekar demanded a Supreme Court
monitored probe into the police action to unearth the truth.
He said the party also wanted Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to apologise to the
nation for the police action during Ramdev's fast.
The yoga guru, who is on a fast since June 4 demanding
that black money stashed away abroad be brought back, said his
hunger strike will continue till his demands are met.
"Fast will continue till my objective is achieved. I
do not care even if I die. The fast will go on," Ramdev said.
He also said that his trust Patanjali Yogapeeth will
bear all expenses for the treatment of people injured in the
police action at Ramlila grounds, especially Rajbala who has
been grievously hurt.
Doctors attending to Ramdev here have said that his
condition is deteriorating.
"He is stable but continuously losing weight. We have
asked him to end fast soon," they said.
Meanwhile, scores of volunteers have been deployed
around ‘yagya shala’, where Ramdev is holding his fast and are
keeping a close vigil on the visitors.
"Today their own (Indian)... investigators they have
proof... that the attack on the Samjhauta Express was not done
by Pakistan's ISI. I have requested that the accused should be
handed over... we will ask for the accused because they killed
Pakistanis," Malik said.
"We should not get into a blame game and jointly we
should think about taking action against these terrorists. I
have given clear indications that the Taliban want to extend
their reach to the whole region and they have made their bases
in India. We have given them some indications," he added.
Malik said he wanted to the people and authorities in
India that Pakistan is "very serious" about the trial of the
seven suspects charged with involvement in the Mumbai attacks
"but you know how long does it takes in the given system".
"I assure you that, under our laws, these culprits
will not be spared. They will be brought to justice because we
mean business and we will not allow Pakistani soil to be used
by any terrorist," he said.
