Roadshows to woo more foreign tourists to India
New Delhi, Jun 9 (PTI) Indian Tourism Ministry has
launched a series of roadshows abroad as part of the
'Incredible India' campaign to attract more foreign tourists.
Besides showcasing tourist destinations including
beaches, monuments, heritage and rural sites, the roadshows
also exhibited India's booming medical and wellness facilities
in the USA, Caribbean and England.
"While roadshows were carried out in the US and
Caribbean countries in the first week of this month, similar
shows were held last month in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam,"
a senior Tourism Ministry official said.
Currently, Indian destinations are being showcased in
Manchester, Birmingham, Durban and Glasgow in England.
Roadshows including cultural evenings were held in New
York and Los Angeles in the USA and Trinidad and Tobago in
Caribbean. Ministry officials and leading tour and travel
operators were present in these roadshows.
"There are many citizens in Trinidad and Tobago who
have roots in India and they are keen to visit here. So we
have decided to set up a committee with the Indian Ministry of
Overseas Indian Affairs to facilitate the visits of these
people to India," said the official.
Foreign tourist arrivals have touched 5.58 million in
2010 from 3.92 million in 2005. The Ministry is planning to
launch the 'Incredible India' campaign in CIS countries in
September.
