Indian Embassy in Yemen provided with more personnel
New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) The Indian Embassy in Sana'a has
been provided with additional personnel to assist Indians in
need with air tickets and special travel documents in Yemen
where clashes between police and pro-government supporters
have steadily intensified killing over 200 people so far.
Noting that while several Embassies in Yemen have closed
down and most others have pruned their staff to bare minimum,
the MEA said the Indian Embassy in Sana'a has been provided
with additional personnel to assist the nationals.
It said so far only a few Indian nationals have availed
of the Embassy's facilitation.
The ministry and the Indian Embassy in Sana'a have,
repeatedly reached out to Indian nationals, as well as,
representatives of Indian organizations in Yemen, advising
them to leave the country at the earliest, by available
commercial means, an official release said here.
It has also been pointed out, time and again, that any
Indian national requiring assistance including with travel,
should immediately approach the Embassy in Sana’a on
designated Help Lines, the ministry said and denied reports
that Indians were stranded in Yemen for want of funds or
travel documents.
"It may be reiterated that the Indian Embassy in Sana’a
is all geared up to assist all Indians in need, with air
tickets and/or special travel documents.....Commercial flights
are operating regularly between Sana’a and Dubai, arrangements
have been made by our Embassy to fly out all needy Indian
nationals who approach the Mission," it said.
There were over 10,000 PIOs and Indian nationals in
Yemen, according to MEA estimates last week.
