Envoy Decries Foreign Interference in Regional Affairs

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian diplomat lashed out at the world powers for their interference in the domestic affairs of the regional nations, specially in those countries where people have stood up to bring down their tyrannical rulers.
Speaking in an interview with the Lebanese TV channel Akhbar al Mustaqbal, Iran's Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi warned that foreign interference will be detrimental to the regional people.
"The motive behind interventions is gaining economic benefits, specially access to oil reserves," he said.
He also rejected claims that Iran supports Palestine and the Lebanese resistance movement just because it wants to expand its influence in the region, and mentioned, "The fact that Iran should support the oppressed people in the world is stated in the country's Constitution."
Elsewhere, the diplomat dismissed an Israeli attack on Lebanon as impossible, specially after the ouster of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak.
"After the 33-day war against Lebanon, the Zionist regime (has not dared and) will not dare to wage a new war on Lebanon. And this regime has been on the verge of collapse since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, and will not attack Lebanon again," Roknabadi said.
"Before the 33-day war against Lebanon in 2006, the Zionist regime committed numerous crimes against the Lebanese people," Roknabadi said, and added, "Now people from Lebanon go to border areas, which are not very far from Israeli soldiers, without any fear, but Israelis are worried that they may be attacked by the Lebanese people."
He pointed out that the Zionist regime, which kills many innocent people everyday, is being militarily supported by the US, and underlined that the resistance movement needs military support because resistance against occupation is "legitimate".
