POS INDONESIA BEING ENCOURAGED TO OPERATE ONLINE NATIONALLY BY 2009
Jakarta, Sept 10 (ANTARA) - The State Enterprises Ministry is encouraging the national postal services company PT Pos Indonesia to link all its offices in the country by an on-line system by 2009, a senior ministry official said.
"We are encouraging them (PT Pos Indonesia) to maximize their service networks in order to increase their overall performance," secretary to the State Enterprises Minister Muhammad Said Didu said here on Wednesday.
He made the statement after attending a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Budget Committee here Wednesday.
Currently, PT Pos Indonesia had a target of inter-connecting at least 3,600 of its offices, including branch offices, so that all of them would be "online" by the end of 2008.
"Up till now, we have only managed to get 3,200 offices into an online network," PT Pos Indonesia Vice Director Ketut Mardjana said.
Mardjana said apart from interconnecting a total of 3,600 offices, the network would also be developed to reach a capacity that would enable the company to enter into cooperation with third parties.
He said the biggest obstacle in the network among post offices in Indonesia now was few connections and frequent drops in power.
"The network connection server at PT Pos currently still uses e GPRS technology, and this is why the system is not stable and needs to be upgraded to a 'dedicated server'," he said.
