NINE FOREIGN FISHING BOATS CAUGHT FOR POACHING

Jakarta, Sept 10 (ANTARA) - Nine fishing boats from Thailand and Vietnam have been caught fishing illegally in Indonesian territorial waters early in the fasting month of Ramadhan.
The director general of supervision and control of marine resources and fisheries, Aji Sularso, said here on Wednesday the boats, five from Thailand and four from Vietnam were seized in the Natuna waters on September 3.
"The boats are now held in Ranai Natuna isles while three others will be taken to Jakarta for confiscation," he said.
The boats consisting of trawls and pursein boats were caught by monitoring vessels Hiu 09 and Hiu 10 belonging to the minsitry of marine resources and fisheries.
The seizure of the three fishing boats brought the number of foreign fishing vessels caught for poaching in the country's waters to 186.
Aji said the number was higher than last year's 180.
"The seizure of the boats saved the country from losing Rp600 billion," he said
