Pakistan announces date for India talks

Islamabad, June 19, IRNA -- Pakistan said on Saturday that two-day high level talks with India will be held in Islamabad on June 23-24.
“Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan will meet in Islamabad on June 23 -24, 2011 to discuss Peace and Security, including Confidence-Building Measures; Jammu & Kashmir; and Promotion of Friendly Exchanges,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Indian Secretary of External Affairs, Nirupama Rao, will hold talks with her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashi.
They last met in February in Thimphu on the sidelines of the SAARC meeting.
The two countries had earlier this year agreed to resume their comprehensive dialogue to resolve outstanding issues in a constructive and forward-looking manner, two years after talks had been stalled between them in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
It was decided that meetings at the level of respective secretaries will be convened on counter-terrorism (including progress on Mumbai attack trial), humanitarian issues, peace and security, including CBMs, Jammu and Kashmir, promotion of friendly exchanges, Siachen, economic issues, Wullar Barrage/Tulbul Navigation Project and Sir Creek (at the level of Additional Secretaries/Surveyors General).
The Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday at the weekly news briefing that the country is desirous of purposeful and result-oriented dialogue with India for the sake of sustainable peace and development in South Asia.
Pakistan Foreign Secretary has also held a preparatory meeting with the representatives of the Kashmiri leadership ahead of the top diplomat level talks to get their viewpoint on how they view the dialogue process, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
She said both Pakistan and India have agreed that the only way forward is through dialogue and they have very substantive discussions on various issues./end
