Foreigners have made region insecure - Iran minister

Kabul, June 19, IRNA – Presence of foreign forces has made the Middle East region 'insecure,' said Defense Minister of Iran Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi on Sunday, adding they want to illegally benefit themselves.

In his meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the visiting Iranian minister said the presence of foreign forces in both region and Afghanistan is the main factor behind insecurity.

'Ensuring regional security will be possible only by collective efforts of regional nations and withdrawl of foreign troops.

'Establishment of security and national development in Afghanistan are among the top priorities of Iran's foreign policy,' said Vahidi.

For his part, the Afghan president said his country is willing to receive Iran's help and support for Afghanistan's reconstruction and for strengthening of stability in that country.

Iran's defense minister arrived in Afghanistan on June 18.

This is the first-ever travel of an Iranian defense minister to Afghanistan./end
