US to face long-term trouble with permanent bases plan: Vahidi

Kabul, June 20, IRNA – Iran’s defense minister advised US Sunday evening to avoid causing long-term trouble for itself by pursuing a plan to establish permanent military bases in Afghanistan.
Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi made the remarks in an interview with IRNA before leaving Kabul for Tehran at the end of his two-day visit to Afghanistan.
“If Americans (US officials) were wise, they should avoid causing long-term trouble for themselves by trying to establish permanent bases in Afghanistan,” said Vahidi.
He said that the plan was part of US efforts “to add another ring to the chain of its hegemony in the region” which was totally rejected by all regional states and nations.
Vahidi stressed that foreigners presence in the region, US in particular, will be harmful for the entire region.
“Presence of outsiders in the region is against the national integrity and progress of regional states and an obstacle on their ways to safeguard their own security,” Vahidi concluded./end
