PT ASTRA HONDA MOTOR TO INCREASE PRODUCTION CAPACITY

Jakarta, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - PT Astra Honda Motor plans to increase the production capacity of its motorcycle assembling plants in North Jakarta in 2009 to meet increasing demand, a spokesman said.
"At present the production capacity of our three plants has reached optimum level," the company's president director, Miki Yamamoto, said Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after attending a function where PT Astra Honda Motor received an award from the Museum of Indonesian Records (MURI) for its production and sales records, Yamamoto would not mention how much the company would invest to increase its production capacity by up to 10 percent.
At present the company had three plants, namely in Sunter and Pegangsaan in North Jakarta and in Cikarang each having a production capacity of around one million units.
"We now have two plants which are already old, namely in Sunter and Pegangsaan. We will put the newest technology in the plants and increase the assembling capacity of the Cikarang plant," he said.
For that he said the company would prepare suppliers of components so that they could follow its plan.
The company's marketing director, Johannes Loman said the company planned to increase production capacity up to 10 percent in the rest time of this year through overtime program to cut order fulfillment time.
"Right now buyers have to wait one to three months before their order is met," he said.
He said he did not believe that demand grew sharply this year despite increasing oil price and high inflation exceeding production capacity.
He said he was optimistic this year's demand would reach six million units.
In August 2008 the company recorded the highest motorcycle sales not only in the country but also the Asean region selling 300,860 units while its production reached 300,588 so that it earned the MURI award.
He said this year the company planned to produce two newest products.
