Jakarta, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - Jakarta antidrug police early Thursday morning shot dead a Nigerian national suspected of being a big-time herion dealer with international connections.
Oliver Ochechuwu Osundu alias Foday Taquray was fatally shot at 01.45 on Thursday (Sept 11) after he had attacked a police officer and tried to flee when he was taken to an address in Bekasi on Jakarta's eastern outskirts where the police had hoped to catch another drug offender, a police spokesman said.
Director of the Jakarta Police's Drug Directorate Senior Commissioner Arman Depari said Taquray was shot dead on Mutiara Gading Street, Mutiara Gading Housing complex, Bekasi, West Java province, at 01.45 am on Thursday.
"When he was taken to capture another suspect, Taquray attacked a police officer and tried to escape, so warning shots were fired," he said.
But Taquray ignored the warning shots, forcing the police to aim at his body until he finally died, he added.
From the operation, the police managed to secure 100 grams of heroin as evidence.
According to police records, the Nigerian had been in the drug business in Jakarta since 2006. And his name was mentioned several times by other suspects who are now serving jail sentences.
He had been on the police's list of wanted persons since 2006.
