MILY CHIEF : TNI MUST NOT BECOME BURDEN TO COUNTRY
Pontianak, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Djoko Santoso said in the future the TNI must not become a burden to the country but part of the solutions to the nation's problems.
Speaking to 137 officers from garrisons across West Kalimantan here Thursday, he said the TNI's future responsibility would be bigger and heavier following internal reform in the past ten years.
"The TNI is the most important part of the components that assure the life and fall of the state. TNI must become the uniter for all national components to make the nation united, great and equal to other nations," he said.
In view of that TNI must maintain its solidity, strength and professionalis while at the same time loving and being loved by the people.
"TNI's cohesiveness with the people is the main key to the unity of all components of the nation," he said.
The general said TNI members must have a profound understanding of national outlook, adding it did not belong to a certain group, religion, tribe and racial group. "TNI belongs to the nation and stands above all groups and national components which are pluralistic according to national outlook, Pancasila state ideology and the 1945 constitution," he said.
With militancy and understanding of the national outlook TNI, starting in 2009, must become a solution of the problems for the nation and country and not a burden, he said.
Before giving his directives he distributed 200 motorcycles to support border security in the Indonesia-Malaysia border (100 units), Indonesia-Timor Leste (50 units) and Indonesia-Papua New Guinea (50 units).
