TRIYONO WIBOWO INSTALLED AS RI VICE FOREIGN MINISTER
Jakarta, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda here Thursday installed Triyono Wibowo, a career diplomat, as vice foreign minister.
"The creation of the vice minister's position is part of the Foreign Affairs Ministry's efforts to improve its organizational structure," Wirajuda said in his speech at the installation.
"Today is an important and historical moment for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the reform era. The appointment of a vice minister had become a necessity due to Indonesia's increasing role in international affairs," Wirajuda said, adding that the idea of having a vice minister in the ministry had existed since 2000.
"By having a vice minister, I hope the ministry can be more effective in carrying out its mission, duties and responsibilities,"
he said.
Indonesia for the first time had a vice foreign minister in the first decade of its existence but it did not last long , he said.
"Triyono Wibowo is an experienced diplomat. He has served in many posts in Indonesia as well as in other countries," Wirajuda said.
Before his appointment as vice foreign minister , Wibowo served as Indonesian ambassador to Austria and Slovenia. Earlier in his career, he was a secretary at the office of Indonesia's Permanent Representative to the UN and also at the Indonesian embassy in Washington DC.
His appointment is based on Presidential Decree No. 87/2008 dated August 28, 2008. Earlier, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had issued Presidential Regulation No. 20 and 21 of 2008, dated March 10, 2008 about the formation of the vice minister's position to complete the foreign ministry's organizational structure.
