VP ASKS RRI TO CONTINUE MAKING INNOVATIONS
Jakarta, Sept. 11 (ANTARA) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla has asked state radio station RRI to continue making innovations to enable it to be information and entertainment references.
"RRI has assets in the forms of technology and human resources paid by the government, so it only needs innovations. And it's quite easy to measure it, notably how RRI could become a reference for every event or news," Vice President Jusuf Kalla said when attending commemoration of the 63rd anniversary of RRI here on Thursday.
Only innovation could make RRI to be the most competitive, he said.
The people still listened to radio, therefore around 2,000 private radio stations were operating throughout the country at present, he said.
Kalla said that radio had special privileges such as faster, inexpensive, and flexible.
He urged RRI employees to return the glory used to be enjoyed by RRI in the past, when everyone listened to RRI for news, entertainment and sports news.
"We hope RRI could make innovations with the support of technology," he said.
Meanwhile, RRI President Director Parni Hadi said that the state radio currently had 58 stations in the country, and one station abroad.
RRI's 63rd anniversary was marked by the inauguration of RRI's local station in Meulaboh, West Aceh.
Among those present on the occasion were State Apparatus Minister Taufik Effendy, Women's Empowerment State Minister Mutia Hatta, Jakarta Deputy Governor Prijanto, and former governor of Jakarta Sutiyoso.
Officially established on September 11, 1945, RRI has an English division called the Voice of Indonesia (VOI).
