TNI TO BUILD 11 MORE SECURITY POSTS NEAR RI-MALAYSIA BORDERS
Pontianak, W Kalimantan, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - The National Defense Forces (TNI) will soon complete the construction of 11 security posts near the Indonesia-Malaysia borders in West and East Kalimantan provinces to intensify security in areas sharing the 2,004-km long borders with the neighboring country.
TNI Chief Gen Djoko Santoso said here on Thursday the number of security posts along the borders was still very limited considering the length of the frontier the TNI must safeguard.
Therefore, he added, the TNI would soon complete the construction of 11 new security posts and renovate the existing ones.
Separately, on Thursday, the chief of the Tanjungpura Regional Military Command, Maj Gen Tono Suratman, said the 11 new security posts were among 32 security posts the TNI would build in stages.
"To determine which areas near the Indonesia-Malaysia borders need additional security posts depends on the situation and conditions in the field as well as on the aspirations of the local people," he said.
To date, there are 30 security posts including four Indonesia- Malaysia joint security posts set up near the borders.
Fifteen of the security posts are located in East Kalimantan bordering the eastern Malaysian states of Serawak and Sabah.
Meanwhile, West Kalimantan Governor Cornelis said the province consisted of 12 districts and municipalities. Five of the 12 districts border Malaysia. They are Sanggau, Sambas, Benkayang, Sintang and Kapuas Hulu.
