INTERNATIONAL TENNIS PLAYERS PRAY FOR WORLD PEACE

Denpasar, Bali, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - Seven Commonwealth Bank Tennis Clasic players held joint prayers at Pura Taman Sari, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali.

Despite their different religious creeds, all of them seem devoted to the occasion on Thursday.

The seven players are Sikha Uberoi, Vania King, Francesca Schiavone, Patty Schnyder, Alla Kudryavtseva, Marta Domachowska and Vasilisa Bardina. All of them were dressed in Balinese Kebaya.

The prayers were led by Pemangku Jro Made Rebit, divided into five stages aimed to beg to the Sang Hyang Whidi Wasa or The great God for safety and wishes.

The players who can normally move about freely in a tennis court, were wrapped in fabric and bent on their knees during the ceremony. Even the sight was not very comfrotable and bathed by the sun, the players were devoted to do the prayer.
After the prayers they were sprayed with holy water or 'tirta' and given the 'bije' or rice. Those were the symbol of The Creator's Greatness or Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa.
One of the Italian players, Francesca Schiavone said that a prayer is a universal langguage to God, everything is aimed at the one and only Almighty God.
"I prayed for world peace. I didn't pray for winning a tennis game, because winning or losing depends on one's abilities," Schiavone said.
Sikha Uberoi, from India, said the same thing, she also prayed for world peace.
