HOUSE ENCOURAGES ENVIRONMENT MINISTER TO BE MORE SELECTIVE IN USSUING AMDAL PERMITS
Jakarta, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - Commission VII of the House of Representatives encouraged the Environment Ministry to be more selective in granting a permit for an Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL).
The encouragement was given during a meeting discussing the floods inundating parts of the area of the Soekarno Hatta airport here on Thursday.
Responding to the Minister of Environment's written report, the commission members made various comments saying that some parts of the area had environmental problems.
One of the commission members the plan to build a hospital, schools and apartement buildings in the area of the Pluit Mega Mall, needs to take AMDAL factors into serious consideration.
He said the northern parts of Jakarta must not be subjected to reclamations, but the planting of mangrove trees instead.
Meanwhile the minister said after the meeting that the implementation of the regulation on AMDAL should not overlap rulings of regional administration autonomy.
Therefore the Environment Ministry should increase its cooperation with the local administration.
