UK MPs condemn Israeli demolition of Palestinian homes

London, June 25, IRNA -- A cross selection of MPS from Britain's major political parties have condemned Israel's latest wave of demolitions of houses to appropriate more Palestinian lands and called for sanctions to be imposed for its defiance of international law.
In an Early Day Motion, Liberal Democrat MP Bob Russell said that parliament 'deplores action by Israel in strengthening its policy of demolishing Palestinian homes in the Jordan Valley, the eastern part of the occupied West Bank.'
The bulldozing of 103 houses this year leaves 'more than 700 people homeless, adding to the thousands already dispossessed in this way,' Russell said.
The motion accuses Israel of 'continuing to act in defiance of international law and UN resolutions' and further condemns Israel for 'promoting policies against the Palestinian people which amount to ethnic cleansing and apartheid.'
MPs supporting the resolution called on the UK government to 'work with the European Union and the UN to introduce sanctions against Israel for its disregard of human rights, international law and UN resolutions.'/end
