Iranian, Tajik presidents stress combat against terrorism

Tehran, June 25, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Tajik counterpart Imomali Rakhmon here on Saturday underlined the need for comprehensive struggle against terrorism and extremism.

The meeting held on the sideline of the first International Conference on Global Fight Against Terrorism currently underway in Tehran.

He reiterated that regional countries can play a vital role in eradication of terrorism and extremism through fostering their all-out ties.

President Ahmadinejad further pointed to Tehran-Dushanbe great potentials which he said would pave the way for further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly nations.

President Rakhmon, for his part, termed the ongoing event as very important, saying, the whole world, particularly the regional states are duty bound to participate in the fight against terrorism.

Several issues including avenues to bolster mutual ties and the latest regional and international developments were discussed by the two presidents.

The International Conference on Global Fight against Terrorism opened in Tehran Saturday morning with a message of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Presidents of Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan are among senior officials from over 60 world countries attending the two-day event./end
