Pakistani media give wide coverage to Zardari’s Iran visit

Islamabad, June 25, IRNA -- Pakistan media has widely covered Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari visit to Tehran, his meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the trilateral summit.

All major newspapers published President Asif Ali Zardari meeting with Iran and Afghan leaders in lead stories besides wide coverage by electronic media.

English news paper ‘Dawn’ in its headline reported that Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan agreed on Friday to expand and strengthen trilateral cooperation for peace, stability and development in the region.

“This was agreed during a meeting between Presidents Asif Ali Zardari, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hamid Karzai”, Dawn reported.

“The three leaders agreed that terrorism was a big hurdle to regional development, which must be tackled and eliminated through enhanced cooperation and that trade and economic activities should be promoted within the region”, it said.

“Earlier at a separate meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari and his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, agreed to make collective efforts to eliminate the menace of terrorism and pledged to continue working together for peace and stability in the region”, it reported.

Daily Times in its story stated Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, on Friday, agreed to expand and strengthen trilateral cooperation for peace, stability and development in the region.

This was agreed during a trilateral meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

“Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have agreed to make collective efforts to eliminate terrorism”, said the newspaper.

‘The News’ another Pakistani news paper reported that a trilateral meeting of Presidents of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan was held in Tehran on Friday.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in the meeting, called for a joint strategy and efforts to curb militancy and terrorism.

“He said the regional approach to the issue was the only way to address the growing challenge of extremism and militancy which he said was a common enemy of the three countries and the world also”, it reported.

The Nation in its story said Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran on Friday agreed to expand and strengthen trilateral cooperation for peace, stability and development in the region.

It said President Asif Ali Zardari also met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday.

“They both agreed to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and mutual engagement in diverse fields for socio-economic development of the people of two countries besides promoting stability, peace, development and shared prosperity of the region”, reported Nation.

“They also expressed the resolve for enhancing mutual coordination for countering terrorism, narcotics control and human trafficking besides sanitizing the borders from the terrorists”, said the newspaper.

Pakistan observer’, reported that Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran on Friday agreed to expand and strengthen trilateral cooperation for peace, stability and development in the region.

“This was agreed during a trilateral meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Friday”, it said.

Pakistani Urdu news papers such as, Jang, Nawa-i-Waqt, Express and Ausaf have also given wide coverage to President Zardari’s Iran visit./end
