Doors of Kamakhya temple opened after Ambubachi festival
Guwahati, June 26 (PTI) The doors of the world famous
Kamakhya temple, home to Shakti cult, were opened on Sunday
after the conclusion of the four day Ambubachi festival.
More than 10 lakh devotees flocked to the picturesque
Neelachal hills to participate in the annual mela, secretary
of the Kamakhya trust Naba Kanta Sarma said, in the North East
Indian state of Assam.
Ambubachi, also called 'ameti' is associated with the
fertility cult of Goddess Kamakhya and is said to mark her
annual menstrual circle.
Sarma said the temple trust will not issue any special
pass for VIPs for the next three days considering the rush
of devotees.
"Even the timings of the offerings to the goddess have
been altered considering the rush of the devotees after the
mela", he said.
Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner J Balaji said the
festival passed off peacefully and devotees from across the
world participated in it.
