OIC foreign ministerial meeting kicks off in Kazakhstan

Astana, June 28, IRNA – The 38th foreign ministerial meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) kicked off here this morning with participation of Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi.

Representatives of a number of Arab, African and Asian countries in their opening speeches called for unity among the OIC member states in solving the problems plaguing the Islamic world and the Muslim communities.

Salehi is to address the meeting this evening to brief the audience on Iran’s views on such important issues of the Islamic world such as the Islamic vigilance in the Middle East and North Africa, Islamophobia in the West, the Palestinian issue as well as situations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iran has already presented five proposals to the Astana meeting which have been approved by the expert committees and will be finally adopted during the meeting.

The Malaysian foreign minister, whose country currently holds the OIC presidency, urged the organization in his opening remarks to play a key role in the international developments with an objective of making the voice of the Islamic Ummah heard all over the world./end
