Afghan solution impossible minus Pakistan’s involvement

Islamabad, June 29, IRNA – Pakistan Defence Minister, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, has said that Afghan problem can not be resolved without Pakistan’s involvement.
“Solution to Afghan problem is not possible without Pakistan’s role. Pakistan is solution to the problem. There would be a major role of Pakistan if anyone wants to end the problem,” the Defence Minister told the BBC Urdu service on Tuesday.
To a question about talks with the Taliban for solution to the Afghan problem, he said that Afghan and Pakistani Taliban will be included in the talks.
“The government is aware where Taliban and there is no difficulty to meet them. Talks will be held with all Taliban and the government knows where they live,” he said.
He said Taliban travel to Saudi Arabia and they have also relations with Middle Eastern countries. “They also meet our religious leaders. Contacts mature and then reaches to the state level,” Mukhtar said.
He said that both Pakistani and Afghan Taliban will be engaged in dialogue process.
To a question about President Karzai’s statement that hundreds of rockets have been fired into Afghan soil from Pakistani territory, he said that Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari recently met President Karzai in Iran and both had fruitful talks.
“Then someone give a statement to President Karzai on his arrival from Iran and he read it out”.
“Pakistani forces will never fire rockets on Afghan brethren as we want peace in Afghanistan so that the Afghans in Pakistan could go back so that peace also restored here. We have suffered a lot”.
To a question about Pakistan's claim that militants enter Pakistani soil from Afghan territory, he said the Afghan government, NATO forces and Afghan tribes may be pushing the militants towards Pakistan, which result into skirmishes.
'You can not stop these militants unless there is an understanding the Afghan authorities and Taliban,' he said.
To a question about investigation into the US unilateral operation to kill Osama bin Laden in Abbotabad on May 2, he said that the army also wants early completion of the investigation into the presence of al-Qaeda chief and the US operation to punish people for negligence.
“People are punished for negligence. I think punishment is given where security lapse is proved. I think there had been no security lapse as the US has latest technology which was difficult to be stopped,” he said.
On the implementation of the recommendations of the commission, the Defence Minister said the recommendations of the inquiry commission would be implemented.
