INDONESIAN RED CROSS IN GROBOGAN APPEALS FOR BLOOD DONATION

Grobogan, Sept 11 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in Grobogan in the currest fasting month needed extra blood suplies as the number of donors had been declining.

Blood transfusion chief at the PMI here dr Susanto said that to attract more blood donors, creative ways of contact is needed, such as contacting them by short message service (SMS).

During the fasting month only three donors had been registered per day, but during other days their number may reach 20 to 25 each day.

"Right now, requests for blood have reached 30 blood bags per day, while PMI had only 182 bags left, which are only enough for the next six days," he said.

Since August 2008 the PMI here managed to collect 1,129 blood bags as the people had been seeking 1,097 bags in August, he added.
