STOMACH ULCER NEEDS SERIUS AND SPECIALIZED TREATMENT
Depok, Sept 11 (ANTARA)- Prof Dr Barry J Marshall, Australian 2005 Nobel Prize Laureate for medicine, said stomach ulcers needed specialized treatment.
"If not seriously treated, the disease develop into stomach cancer," Barry said at the Al Hamidiyah Islamic Boarding school in Sawangan, Depok, Thursday.
He said that the main cause of stomach ulcer in Indonesia is poor sanitation, therefore almost half of Indonesians have or had Helicobacter pylori (H pylori).
This patogen bacteria entered the body through the mouth, and often transmitted by a mother to her baby.
This bacteria are usually found in low economic standard countries with poor quality health conditions.
The bacteria attach itself to the inner surface of the stomach through membranes interactions of lektin and specified oligosakarida bacteria from the stomach's epitel cells glikoprotein membranes.
"Those bacteria are the main cause of stomach ulcer," he said.
Barry said that a combination of research, education and high-end technology will give the best result in Indonesia.
The Al Hamidiyah Islamic boarding school guardian, KH Zainudin Ma'shum Ali said he will tell his students about the disease, and conduct medical research.
He said his students study foreign knowledge, and will try to become world-standard scientists.
"We have a dream that our students will someday go international," he said.
