Pakistani analyst calls for Iran-Pak co-op in energy sector

Islamabad, July 3, IRNA – Pakistani independent analyst on Saturday underlined the need for Iran-Pakistan cooperation in energy sector.

Talking to IRNA, Jamshed Ayaz Khan said that Pakistan should also take benefit of Iranian experience in the fields of education and health.

He said that it is very encouraging to see that Iran has managed to remove the grip of big economic powers by using its domestic resources.

The analyst expressing his views said that, ‘20 years back I have written an article stressing for close cooperation between navies of Iran and Pakistan’. He believed that Pakistan and Iran should jointly control the Indian Ocean.

He further said that Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan should join hands practically as it is a natural alliance. “They should enter into projects”, he said.

Jamshed Ayaz Khan opined that after evacuation of NATO forces from Afghanistan, the three regional countries could work together for the stability of the region. “Iran can play a very important role in this regards”, said the analyst.

He opined that Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan should start a strategic dialogue to solve the regional issues. “This would also help in comparatively reducing the influence of outside powers on regional politics”, he viewed.

He said Iran and Pakistan are strong countries of region. The analyst viewed that Pakistan must take benefit from Iran’s development in energy sector to overcome its energy crisis.

He underscored the need for Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and said that the project should be completed as early as possible.

Jamshed Ayaz Khan said though US would pressurize Pakistan to come out of joint projects with Iran but Pakistan must not listen to outsiders.

“We can also take help from Iran in health and education sector”, said the analyst. Jamshed Ayaz Khan added that Iran has always helped Pakistan in difficult times.

“Pakistan and Iran should enhance strong economic linkages”, he suggested.

Jamshed Ayaz Khan retired as a Major General in 2001 after serving for approximately 39 years in the Army including eleven years as a General Officer.

He is also the member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London, the Asia Society, New York and the Rotary Club International. His name is also listed in the International who’s Who Historical Society’s list 2006-07./end
