RESULT OF IFC SURVEY TO BE STUDIED

Jakarta, Sept 12 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said he was surprised by the result of the International Finance Corporation's recent survey on doing business in Indonesia that has put the country's ranking at number 129 out of 181 countries surveyed.
"It is indeed surprising but after being scrutinized there is indeed a component that affects point collection namely paid up capital. The capital used to be Rp20 million although only 20 percent of it was really paid but now according to Law Number 40 of 2007 on liability companies it rose to Rp50 million but only 25 percent of it or Rp12.5 million would be really paid," he said at his office here on Friday.
He said the capital was indeed not relatively big but other countries such as Singapore only required US$1, so US$1,000 was considered very high.
He admitted that "the paid-up capital was intended to protect the community and avoid a possible bogus company."
Earlier the country's ranking was at 127 out of 181 countries. The government has been making efforts to improve it and expected it to go up to 75 this year but it had even dropped to 129.
