COMPANY COMPENSATES FARMERS FOR HARVEST FAILURE
Purworejo, Central Java, Sept. 13 (ANTARA) - PT Sarana Harapan Indopangan (SHI) has compensated farmers at Grabag village, Purworejo District, Central Java, for their failure in cultivating the Supertoy HL-2 paddy variety.
The compensation was handed to the farmers at the house of Grabag village head Gandung Sumriyadi, in Purworejo, on Saturday.
SHI, which had provided capital for the Supertoy cultivation, handed over Rp1.6 billion in cash for a total of 427 farmers.
The company had earlier promoted the Supertoy paddy variety which turned out to be failure as it was too premature to plant Supertoy on a large scale as the variety still needed further research.
