Iran, a big power in the Islamic world: FM
Tehran, July 10, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi underlined here that Islamic Republic of Iran has turned to a big power in the region and in the Islamic world.
Speaking in a live program in Iranian Jam-e-Jam TV world network on Saturday afternoon, Salehi expounded on position of science, technology, economy, culture and public health as elements of power in a country and added that such elements indicate that Iran has turned to an undeniable power and is fixing its position in the world everyday and the fact is being confirmed by most of freedom loving people of the world.
Referring to the recent developments in the Middle East and North Africa and uprising of Muslim nations, Salehi said that growing trend of progress in our country for the past 30 years had caused Iran to turn into a model country on freedom message to the world and our nation has introduced themselves as brave fighters against cruelty and defenders of oppressed peoples' rights.
Answering a question about Iran's reaction to developments in Bahrain, Salehi said that as we supported people uprising in Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen, we support Bahraini people, too.
'In this direction, we negotiated and corresponded with the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Conference, world Red Cross, and High Commissioner for Human Rights and by considering the principle of non-interference in domestic affairs of other countries, we defended Bahraini people legitimate demands.'
Expressing satisfaction over current existing developments in establishment of ties between Iran and Egypt, Salehi called its outlook very promising.
Concerning recent nuclear issues between Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Salehi said that the agency in its recent statement showed that it is gradually moving toward a new form of reporting in which Iran's nuclear rights would not be considered.
Salehi described continuation of illegal and unwise sanctions of the west against Iranians as a contradictory and dual standard and added that west by its own media power and propaganda is trying to show wrong as right and is trying to introduce itself as sympathizers to Iranians, but they should know that Iranian government and people are inseparable./end
