GOVT TO ADD 67 COACHES TO TRAINS FOR IDUL FITRI TRAVELERS

Padang, Sept 13 (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Yasman Safei Jamal said the State Railways Company is to put 67 extra train coaches in service to transport Idul Fitri passengers whose number this year is expected to reach three million.
"The additional train coaches are now ready to be operated beginning on September 24, or seven days before the D-Day of the Idul Fitri holidays," the minister said here on Saturday.
He said the number of train coaches was increased in an effort to provide comfortable transportation services for Idul Fitri travelers.
The minister said the government would provide economy class seats at low ticket prices for about 70 percent of the estimated 3 million passengers.
"The remaining 30 percent of the passengers are expected to use business and economy class seats whose ticket prices are set at the upper level of the official ticket prices," the minister added.
He said for economy class trains, the government would also provide 20 additional coaches and 20 more units for operation in West Sumatra, Banten and Semarang.
The government would also make 20 coaches with toilet facilities available. For business and executive class trains, there would be 27 additional new coaches, he said.
