India asks adherence to 'red lines' in Afghan peace process

New Delhi, Jul 15 (PTI) A "detailed" discussion on the
peace process in Afghanistan, including the Taliban's
reintegration, was held between Indian External Affairs
Minister S M Krishna and Burhanuddin Rabbani, head of Afghan
High Peace Council, with India asking for adherence to the
'red lines' while going-ahead with the entire process.
Rabbani, former Afghan President, "held detailed
discussions with Krishna and his delegation on the peace
process in Afghanistan", a release from the Indian External
Affairs Ministry said here Friday.
"India's support for Afghanistan's quest for peace and
stability through a process which is Afghan-led, Afghan-owned,
inclusive and transparent and which respects the red lines
agreed upon by the Government of Afghanistan and the
international community, was reiterated", it said.
The visit of the delegation of the High Peace Council of
Afghanistan is part of the regular high-level exchanges
between India and Afghanistan and the close relations between
the two countries have been further strengthened by this
visit, it added.
The High Peace Council was established by Afghan
government in September 2010 to facilitate the peace process
in that country.
India remains concerned over some aspects of
reintegration of the Taliban and has been stressing on the
adherence to the 'red lines' while going ahead with the peace
process as outlined in the London conference last year,
including severing of ties with al-Qaeda.
