Al-Mahmoud Receives Message from US Envoy to Sudan
Doha, July 15 (QNA) - HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud has received a written message from U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan Princeton Lyman
In his message Lyman expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the State of Qatar for all the efforts it exerted to sponsor the peace agreement signed yesterday between the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM).
he also evaluated the strenuous efforts made by HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs to bring peace to the people of Darfur and to halt hostilities in the region.
He added that the Doha document contains the necessary elements for reaching a comprehensive settlement. He said by taking the initiative to sign the agreement, the Government of the Sudan and the Liberation and Justice Movement have taken a positive step forward on the way to the final solution to the crisis in Darfur, adding that the agreement and the Doha document will form the basic infrastructure to build on for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict in terms of issues and parties.
The U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan said he was looking forward to the role of the State of Qatar in the chairmanship of the International Follow-up Committee to assist in charting the way forwards the attainment of this goal.(QNA)
